After flying in a top DC Democratic elections attorney to fight the Colorado Independent Ethics Commission’s subpoena for John Hickenlooper to testify about his unethical behavior as Governor, this morning Hickenlooper failed to appear at a 9 am hearing, defying the Commission’s lawful subpoena.
This is just the latest development in the saga of John Hickenlooper acting as though he’s above the rules that apply to everyone else. Hickenlooper’s floundering just before the Democratic primary has ensured this issue is top of mind for voters before they vote. Now, not only will voters be sure to know Hickenlooper is under investigation for crossing ethical lines – they’ll also see he’s so afraid to testify about it, he was willing to defy a lawful subpoena, too.
The Commission just voted 5-0 to involve the Colorado Attorney General’s office. A Commissioner says he is in “contempt” of their subpoena. More to come.
“For a guy who claims he’s innocent, John Hickenlooper sure does act like he has something to hide.” -SLF Communications Director Jack Pandol
