BREAKING: Florida Democratic Party now getting rid of $10K Al-Rashid donation

May 18, 2016

smug

Democrats across Florida are probably wishing they’d never heard the name Ibrahim Al-Rashid. After it was revealed that Patrick Murphy’s second biggest backer committed a heinous act of domestic violence, Murphy, Joe Garcia, Senate Majority PAC, and Josh Gottenheimer (New Jersey) have all returned or donated their Al-Rashid cash.

Well following an inquiry from The Hill, the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida is now returning the $10K it received from Al-Rashid.

But there is more than meets the eye here.

According to Politico’s Matt Dixon, the Murphy Victory Fund and the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida (the federal arm of the Florida Democratic Party) formed a joint fundraising committee on November 13, 2015. From the article, “[t]he agreement means that the committee can collect contributions for Murphy, and he can now help raise federal campaign contributions for the party.”

Guess who donated $10,000 to the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida on December 16, 2015? Ibrahim Al-Rashid.

It’s starting to look like Patrick didn’t want Al-Rashid’s name on his FEC reports anymore, but still wanted his money. But he was more than happy to see his friend donate to supporting entities like Senate Majority PAC and the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida.

That’s pathetic.

“When it is politically convenient Patrick Murphy talks tough on preventing domestic violence. But when Murphy thinks no one is watching he and organizations supporting him have taken at least $115,400 from someone he knew had been convicted of domestic assault. That’s really all you need to know about where Murphy’s priorities lie.” – Senate Leadership Fund Spokesman Ian Prior
