As if Nevadans weren’t struggling enough under Catherine Cortez Masto and Joe Biden’s inflation-stricken economy, adding insult to injury the Nevada Senator introduced a messaging bill to sidestep blame for high gas prices… but won’t reduce the price at the pump even one cent.
Nevada currently has the fifth-highest gas prices in the country according to AAA – behind only California, Hawaii, Washington, and Oregon. And Cortez Masto knows this – she’s previously complained about higher prices, saying she notices the effects of inflation “at the gas pump when I fill up my tank.” According to Punchbowl News, Cortez Masto “admitted inflation is a serious… political problem, but insisted Democrats have some solutions.”
Unfortunately for Cortez Masto, her “solution” is a bill the Las Vegas Review-Journal just tore to shreds because it won’t lower the price of gas one penny for Nevadans: “a state law in place since 1973 and modified in 1997 states that Nevada’s gas tax would be raised ‘by the exact amount of any reduction in federal levies.'”
This comes after Cortez Masto flat-out lied while campaigning on the bill, saying it “will help us lower costs for Nevada families.” She also falsely claimed it would give Nevadans “more money in their pockets that they need right now.”
Oops. And what does Cortez Masto have to say for herself? Apparently nothing. Asked by Fox Business to respond: “Cortez Masto’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment on this story.”
“Shame on Catherine Cortez Masto for putting politics first when it comes to the higher costs her votes inflicted on Nevada family budgets. This bill is merely a political band aid for Cortez Masto’s inflation problem, but Nevada families won’t see even one cent of relief – demonstrating the Senator cares more about optics than real solutions.” -SLF Communications Director Jack Pandol
