“Mexico Joe” Donnelly is clearly hard up for Republican support in Indiana these days. But is it so bad for Donnelly that he had to launch “Republicans for Joe” with someone who compared President Trump’s election in 2016 to the September 11th terrorist attacks?
“It’s sad that Desperate Donnelly is using someone who recently equated Trump’s election with a terrorist attack to pretend he’s anything but a rubber stamp for Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi,” said Senate Leadership Fund spokesman Chris Pack.
BACKGROUND
Today at a press conference, Joe Donnelly launched “Republicans for Joe,” which included a woman who compared Trump’s election to September 11th as among the “worst days ever in America”“Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) announced a new Republicans for Joe constituency group Monday. Several prominent Republicans helped launch the group and praised Donnelly’s bipartisan approach to politics. Anne Emison Wishard, a Hoosier with deep roots in Indiana conservatism, says she came to support Donnelly in part because she no longer recognizes today’s Republican Party. ‘The Republican Party today is not my father’s Republican Party, it’s not my grandfather’s Republican Party, or my great grandfather’s,’ Emison Wishard says.” (Sarah Panfil, “Senator Donnelly Launches Republican Constituency Group,” WFYI, 6/18/18)
