CLAIM:
Mo Brooks launched a new commercial claiming to have written a $2,500 check to help Trump beat Hillary.
FACT:
Brooks’ check is made out to the Alabama GOP and was written on the same day that he refused to publicly say he would vote for Trump.
AUDIO (Starts at 3:05): October 11, 2016, Alabama radio host Dale Jackson asked if Brooks was going to vote for Donald Trump, and Brooks said “I didn’t say that.” DALE JACKSON: If you’re gonna vote for every Republican candidate, that means you’re gonna vote for Donald Trump?” BROOKS: “I didn’t say that. I said I’m gonna vote for a Republican that is on the ballot.” JACKSON: “Is the implication that’s Donald Trump’s not a Republican?” BROOKS: “Well, everybody has to make up their own minds about that.” (WVNN’s, “The Dale Jackson Show,” 10/11/16)
AUDIO (Starts at 4:36): Brooks was silent when asked if Donald Trump was a Republican, and said “This is gonna be a pretty short interview if you keep pressing me on it.” JACKSON: “I know, I’m just gonna have to keep hammering it though. I’m trying to drive this home here for a second. So is Donald Trump a Republican?” BROOKS: [Silence] JACKSON: [Laughs] “Is he? Is Donald Trump a Republican?” BROOKS: “This is gonna be a pretty short interview if you keep pressing me on it.” (WVNN’s, “The Dale Jackson Show,” 10/11/16)
SLF RESPONSE:
“If Mo Brooks’ check to the Alabama GOP was meant to assist Donald Trump, then why did Brooks publicly refuse to say who he was voting for during a radio interview on the same day?” –SLF Spokesman Chris Pack
