Gideon Refuses to Answer Whether She’ll Accept “Bribery” Funds

July 2, 2020

Sara Gideon will do anything for a buck. Today, Roll Call outlines the shady “bribery” fund awaiting the Democratic nominee in Maine’s Senate race, which caused “ethics experts” to “[flag] potential concerns about the nature of the pre-Kavanaugh-vote, anti-Collins campaign.” The WSJ derided the fund as an intimidation effort to “strong-arm” Susan Collins.

And yet, Sara Gideon is staying silent on whether she will accept the questionable money – meaning she absolutely plans to and hopes no one will notice.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone paying attention to Gideon’s conduct during the Senate race. Gideon was fined by the Maine Ethics Commission for illegally funneling corporate cash from her PAC to her personal bank account in a straw donor scheme. She skipped debates to fundraise with the very corporate donors she swears she’s not fundraising with.

Gideon needs to answer why Mainers should trust her when she has repeatedly obfuscated, lied, and was even accused of breaking federal law in the single-minded pursuit of campaign donations. She can’t hide from this problem forever.
