Hagan’s Decision Leaves Democrats With Few Options in North Carolina

With Kay Hagan’s decision against running for Senate in 2016, Democratic leaders turn to the awkward proposition of trying to recruit a handful of alternatives who had already indicated they weren’t interested. Republican Senator Richard Burr will face a Democratic candidate who may be convinced to step up after a heavyweight like Hagan is out of the picture. Currently Anthony Foxx, Janet Cowell, Tom Ross, Heath Shuler, and Josh Stein are among the Democrats top choices for 2016. Kay Hagan’s candidacy is still possible however, as she passed on a bit before changing her mind in 2007. National Journal
