In a major flip-flop, former Governor John Hickenlooper has caved to the far-left environmentalist groups assailing his campaign, stating: “I support the urgency, I support the goals” of the Green New Deal at a forum in Denver yesterday.
This is an astonishing turnaround from just a few months ago, when Hickenlooper penned an entire op-ed in the Washington Post outlining his total opposition to the Green New Deal. Then, Hickenlooper specifically stated: “The resolution sets unachievable goals.”
These are now goals he apparently supports now that it’s convenient politics.
The Green New Deal would devastate the Colorado economy, and specifically oil and gas production in the state. Colorado Senator Cory Gardner wrote in the Durango Herald earlier this year: “The Green New Deal is a radical, unrealistic proposal, and it’s not just conservatives who think this… Bipartisan policies I have championed are having a bigger impact on emissions reductions than the green deal ever could.”
