Sara Gideon pretends like she doesn’t have time to tell Mainers why she deserves to be their Senator in a debate, but she apparently has time to hobnob with lobbyists and corporate PACs funding her campaign.
A new report shows after skipping a debate to public criticism last week, Gideon attended a by-invitation-only fundraiser put on by the Moderate Democrats PAC, which is primarily funded by corporate PACs. The report shows corporate PACs such as Citigroup, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Exxon Mobil are the primary funders of the group, which held the fundraiser for Gideon with its “Trustees and Executive Members” – representatives of the corporate PACs funding the organization.
Gideon has been criticized for violating her anti-corporate PAC pledge before, violating state law to funnel corporate cash from her PAC to her personal bank account and being fined by the Maine Ethics Commission for it. Gideon has also received large amounts of money from PACs funded by corporations, as well as money from out of state lobbyists.
“When it comes to virtue signaling about money in politics, Sara Gideon is absolutely full of it. By her own actions, she’s demonstrated she’d rather clink glasses with the corporate lobbyists and PACs funding her campaign than tell Mainers why she should be their Senator.” -SLF Communications Director Jack Pandol
