Senate Leadership Fund Statement on Upcoming Bob Menendez Trial

April 28, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC— Senate Leadership Fund President and CEO Steven Law today released the following statement in response to Dr. Salomon Melgen’s conviction on 67 counts of Medicare fraud in Florida. Melgen will stand trial later this year with New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez on corruption charges.

“Where there is smoke there is usually fire, and it cannot be ignored that Bob Menendez’s co-defendant in an upcoming corruption trial in New Jersey was just convicted on 67 counts of Medicare fraud in Florida,” said Senate Leadership Fund President and CEO Steven Law. “At what point does the New Jersey Democratic Party wipe their hands clean of Bob Menendez and the never-ending cloud of corruption following him wherever he goes?”

Menendez and Melgen are scheduled to go on trial later this year for a quid pro quo scheme where Melgen gave Menendez gifts in exchange for securing U.S. visas. Melgen and his family have also donated $45,000 to Menendez’s campaign and leadership PAC.
