SLF Applauds Vulnerable Democratic Senators for Courageously Agreeing to Campaign with Toxic President

December 6, 2021

The Senate Leadership Fund applauded vulnerable Democratic Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) for courageously agreeing to campaign with the unpopular and incompetent leader of their party, Joe Biden.

Politico reports this morning that despite Biden’s inability to appeal to voters in their states, they aren’t backing away. Senator Hassan – who recently appeared beside the unpopular president in New Hampshire – told the publication “the president’s always welcome in New Hampshire.” And a Cortez Masto staffer told the outlet she would campaign with the president and called him an “important ally.”

Hassan and Cortez Masto are lashing themselves to the U.S.S. Biden precisely as it has hit the iceberg and is continuing to sink into the ocean. Biden’s popularity numbers have steadily ticked downward the more Americans have seen of his asleep-at-the-wheel leadership style. But the bottom began to fall out for Biden particularly after the disastrous Afghanistan retreat that cost the lives of American military servicemen attempting to control the chaos created by the President’s incompetence.

As inflation continues to spiral out of control and over 70 percent of American households making less than $40,000 a year confirming it has caused them financial hardship, one might wonder at the political wisdom of Hassan and Cortez Masto’s stance. From Afghanistan to inflation to the border crisis gripping the country, they will own Biden’s every mistake and blunder in office.

“It takes political courage to appear alongside a president as incompetent and unpopular as Joe Biden. As crises spiral out of control on the president’s watch – from inflation to the border to foreign policy – these Democrats are clearly demonstrating their loyalty to their party’s leader, even over the pesky protestations of their own constituents.” -SLF Communications Director Jack Pandol
