Statement on Mo Brooks’s Campaign for U.S. Senate

May 15, 2017

If you’re covering Mo Brooks’s announcement that he is running for U.S. Senate, please consider the following quote from Senate Leadership Fund:

“While Luther Strange was cleaning up the corruption in Montgomery, Mo Brooks was living the life of a Washington insider, opposing Donald Trump and failing to get a single bill signed into law in four terms in the House. If Brooks can’t cut it in the House, how can he be trusted to deliver results in the U.S. Senate? It’s clear Mo Brooks is more interested in advancing his own career than he is with delivering for Alabama.” – Senate Leadership Fund Spokesman Chris Pack

BACKGROUND:

Mo Brooks Has Never Been The Primary Sponsor Of A Bill That Became Law. In Fact, He’s Never Even Had One Of His Bills Make It To The House Floor Despite Having A Republican Speaker During His Entire Tenure In Congress. (“Mo Brooks,” Congress.Gov, Accessed 5/9/17)

Brooks Has Only Passed One Bill Out Of Committee. It Was Never Brought Up By The Full House. (“Mo Brooks,” Congress.Gov, Accessed 5/9/17)

  • The Only Bill Brooks Passed Out Of Committee Required NASA To Obtain Legislative Permission To Cancel Four Its Most Expensive Human Spaceflight And Science Programs, And Gave Aerospace Contractors “Immediate Access To Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars In Funds Which Currently Are Held In Reserve To Pay The Government’s Obligations In The Event Of Such Termination.” “The Washington DC-based National Space Society (NSS) strongly opposes the passage of House of Representatives bill HR 3625. This bill would (a) require NASA to obtain legislative permission to cancel four of its most expensive human spaceflight and science programs, and (b) allow contractors for these programs to have immediate access to hundreds of millions of dollars in funds which currently are held in reserve to pay the government’s obligations in the event of such termination. The four covered programs are the Space Launch System, the Orion crew capsule, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and the International Space Station.” (R.3625, Introduced 12/2/13; “National Space Society Opposes HR 3625,” National Space Society, 1/13/14)
