Warnock Stumps for Georgia Hospital Cuts

November 12, 2021

Raphael Warnock hit the trail stumping for Joe Biden’s trillion-dollar spending spree, saying: “So we need to finish the job and get it across the finish line.”

One problem? The Biden plan actually *cuts* funding for hospitals for the poor as Georgia is still reeling from the worldwide pandemic.

Modern Healthcare: “The proposed DSH cuts unfairly target hospitals… Reducing this funding would affect hospitals in… Georgia… ‘It would significantly penalize safety net hospitals…,’ said Lisa Smith, vice president of advocacy and public policy for the Catholic Health Association of the United States.”

A network of local hospitals wrote to Congress earlier this month raising the alarm about these very cuts, saying: “The cuts could be as much as $7.8 billion in federal funding over 10 years, and this reduction in funding will make it difficult for hospitals in those states to continue to serve their patients and their communities.”

Voting for hospital cuts during a pandemic? Risky political strategy for Warnock.

“Raphael Warnock is willing to hang his own constituents out to dry just to pass a misguided trillion-dollar boondoggle he thinks will save his own political skin. Georgians will be furious when they find out he’s put them on the hook for hospital funding cuts as he grants tax breaks to millionaires in California and New York.” -SLF Communications Director Jack Pandol
